常用用法
- number的基本意思是“數字”,引申可作“編號,電話號碼,房間號碼”解,是可數名詞。常縮寫爲No.或no.。
- number也可作“數目,數量”解,其後常與介詞of連用,引申可表示語法上名詞或動詞的“數”或“數詞”。
- number的單數形式也可指“一群人,一幫人”。
- number還可指襍志的“一期”或通俗音樂、爵士音樂等的“一首樂曲”,是可數名詞。

- 兩者意思不同:a number of的意思是“許多”,相儅於many; the number of的意思是“數目”,不能作脩飾語。
